Hello Friends, it’s the second Wednesday in December and that means it’s time for Samantha Walker’s Creative Crafters’ Blog Hop. It’s the last blog hop of the year and it’s also my last blog hop with the Samantha Walker Team.  It has been a great year and I am so thankful for the time I’ve spent with these lovely ladies this year and with all of you faithful hoppers, thank you!

Today’s blog hop theme is gifts. I created this personalized monogram hoop using Samantha’s Riley Blake Fabric.

I started out in Photoshop. I opened a new letter sized canvas and typed a single c in a serif font, i think i used Georgia.  I selected the letter and in the size area I set it to 600 pt size.  In the layer palette I added a 10 point stroke on it’s own layer. I then CMD clicked the thumbnail of the c text layer to select around the c. I selected the stroke layer and hit delete to remove the shape of the letter and just left the outside of the stroke.  I deselected and  and then printed on a plain paper. I cut out around the letter and set it aside.

I took a piece of canvas and a piece of Samantha Walker Riley Blake Gingham fabric and ironed it. I layered the gingham on the bottom, then the canvas, then the paper on top. Because I’m lazy, I used tape to hold the paper in place.  You should probably use pins for the best results.

I then took the layers to the sewing machine and stitched on the line around the c with a straight stitch with a medium stitch length. I then peeled off the paper carefully to avoid pulling the stitches out.

I decided to add a second go around with the sewing machine. Then I turned the stack over and trimmed away the excess fabric.

I very carefully poked my scissors into the canvas to cut a small hole into the canvas layer only.  I then trimmed the  canvas inside the stitch line leaving a little margin to fray.

and here is the finished project.
